Promoting Health & Preventing Illness
Prevention is the cornerstone of good health for your beloved dogs and cats. We emphasize the importance of regular check-ups to extend your pet's lifespan. These visits provide an opportunity for us to tailor our care to your pet's individual needs while also strengthening our bond with you and your furry companion.
We provide multiple preventive options to shield your pet from diseases and parasites:
The Exam
A thorough physical exam to evaluate your pet's overall health, including their oral health. With each yearly check-up, we enhance our familiarity with your pet, ensuring their ongoing health and happiness.
Diagnostics
We recommend fecal testing for intestinal parasites and heartworm testing on a yearly basis for most pets. The doctor may suggest blood, urine, and x-rays to evaluate your pet's health further, depending on their age or any existing health concerns.
Vaccinations
Vaccines are essential for your pet's well-being. Our veterinarians will recommend vaccines based on your pet's lifestyle and provide a schedule to ensure they stay up to date, and they'll be better equipped to defend against disease exposure.
Education
Collaboration is key to your pet's health at Metro Paws Animal Hospital. During your visit, we're here to address any questions you have, ensuring that we're both aligned on their care.
Microchipping
Remember, tags can wear out and collars can slip off! It's crucial to have permanent identification for your pet in case they get lost. We offer microchipping, a painless procedure similar to a routine vaccination. A tiny microchip, about the size of a grain of rice, is injected between your pet's shoulder blades. No anesthesia is required, and it provides peace of mind knowing your pet can be easily identified if they ever wander off.
Health Certificates
We have a USDA-certified veterinarian on staff to assist with international health certificates. We also provide interstate and airline health forms. We recommend reaching out to us as soon as you are thinking about traveling out of the country, as some countries have a long wait period to get in with a pet, and some countries may require extensive testing to avoid quarantine periods.
