Dr. Kathryn Junkins Sarpong graduated cum laude from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. She completed an internship in an internal medicine and cardiology referral practice in West Los Angeles. Upon returning to Dallas, she worked for 3 1/2 years as an emergency doctor for cats and dogs. In 2006, Dr. Sarpong and Dr. Lavender opened Metro Paws Animal Hospital to serve cats and dogs of East Dallas. Her professional interests include geriatric care, infectious diseases, endocrinology, surgery and internal medicine.
In 2011, Dr. Sarpong mastered the rigorous application and certification examination to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Canine & Feline). The American Board of Veterinary Practitioners is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association to certify species-oriented specialists.
Dr. Sarpong has a background in chemical engineering and completed a B.S. at the University of Virginia. She then worked at Merck, Inc. on new drug development prior to returning to veterinary school.
Dr. Sarpong enjoys living in Hollywood/Santa Monica neighborhood (south of Lakewood). Her family includes two daughters and numerous animals rescued in the area. When not working, she enjoys sports, traveling and walking around White Rock Lake.
Dr. Sarpong says that she learns something new every day from patients, clients and her colleagues – and that she has the best job in the world.
